Southside Cedar is a factory direct representative for a log mill located in New York. This means that the savings of eliminating the "middle man" is passed directly to the purchaser allowing quality materials to be sold at better, more economical prices. We primarily sell Eastern White Cedar and Northern White Pine, but we can also obtain Red Cedar and other wood species if requested. While the "D"shape profile is the most popular, we offer many log profiles and have the ability to match existing structures. The logs are traditionally milled with a double tongue and groove shape for a better fit, but the customer is not limited to this style.
Our plant offers the services of a computer aided design system (CAD) so that any custom plan or design may be easily adapted to the logs. A full set of blueprints is supplied with each house.
The weathertight shell kit includes the logs, siding, lofts, railings, porches, decks, windows, exterior doors, soffits, fascia, shingles, rafters, trusses, as well as the hardware needed to put the home together. The logs are normally milled in the "D" pattern, but other patterns may be used. The usual log sizes are 4x6, 6x6, 6x8 and 8x8, however, larger logs are also offered. The Fiberclassic doors come with Schlage locksets and are guaranteed for life. The windows are manufactured by Caradco and are clad, high performance, low e tilt takeout and insulated. The decks and porches are Cedar. Six by eight wooden beams support the lofts and are covered by 2x6 vee jointed tongue and grooved flooring. Trusses are factory made and the rafters are 2x12s. The roof is 5/8" sheathing covered with heavy duty asphalt shingles. A metal roof may be substituted for a slightly higher cost. The logs may be stained at the plant at an additional cost.
We also offer log siding in both cedar and pine in 5/4x6, 8/4x6, 5/4x8 and 8/4x8 in half log style as well as shiplap.
There is no project that is too large or small. We welcome all inquiries.
